Handmade Productions is an outdoor arts organisation creating spectacular, people-powered events that transform public space and bring communities together. Best known as the producers of the Hebden Bridge Summer Parade, our work now extends far beyond one event. We design and deliver parades, festivals, installations, and participatory projects locally, regionally, and nationally, alongside a strong programme of artist skills development focused on large-scale outdoor work.
At the heart of Handmade Productions is a belief that creativity can change how people relate to each other and to the places they live. We see first-hand the pride, ownership, and joy that emerge when streets are reclaimed for celebration and town centres become spaces of connection. Our visually striking work—ranging from giant puppets and lantern sculptures to immersive site décor and processional performance—is inclusive, joyful, accessible, and rooted in place.
People are central to everything we do. Our projects build confidence, encourage collaboration, and create space for conversation and friendship. We work with a wide associate network of skilled freelance makers, puppeteers, musicians, and performers, experienced in working sensitively with participants of all ages and abilities, including those with additional needs. Our workshops unlock creativity without being intimidating or restrictive, empowering people to make work they feel proud of.
We also build to commission and hire, supplying giant puppets, lanterns, and site décor to festivals and parades. Sustainability underpins our practice: we prioritise low-impact materials such as bamboo, willow, paper, natural fabrics, and recycled cardboard, and avoid new plastics wherever possible.
Above all, Handmade Productions is driven by joy and imagination. We create moments of wonder that invite people to look at their surroundings and celebrate together, sparking curiosity, delight, and shared stories in public spaces.
