I’m Matt Seel, a documentary, portrait, and events photographer based in Todmorden.
Shooting across film and digital, my documentary work captures the overlooked details of everyday life. I’m currently working on two long-term personal projects: one documenting Elland, showing the people, places and things left behind that illustrates a post-industrial town on the edge of renewal and another exploring the UK’s markets and their evolving role in communities across the country. Through candid street portraits and posed editorial shots, I capture the essence of a person or group through quiet understanding and the creation of a safe space for sitters.
My events work ranges from documenting local traditions and cultural events, such as the Sowerby Bridge Rushbearing and launch of CultureDale, to live music and gigs in grassroots venues across the borough. With each event showing the raw energy, connection and excitement of those involved and those in the audience.
Through my photography, I tell stories and dig deeper into local culture and the people who shape it in an honest, non-judgemental way, showing the communities that make each individual place so special.
